I’ve finally finished “Crime and Punishment” and…find myself, with this book, extremelely impressed by Dostoyevsky’s writing abilities. (I read in “Notes” in college and yet didn’t feel quite as moved.) I know that must sound pretty grossly naive, simple and pretentious all at once–this is of course FIDOR DOSTOYEVSKY we’re discussing–but I’m not the type of person to be so easily convinced by the assignment of defintive iconic literary brilliance by the amorphous ‘everyone.’... Pasted from a Jan '10 entry: So I’ve been reading Tropic of Cancer on and off for a couple of days now (not for the reasons you might think…esp those of you who’ve seen that “Seinfeld” episode) and don’t know quite where it’s going.
